Amid competition from several streaming servives, DStv is stepping up its turnaround strategy with the launch of Thol-iUpsize, a nationwide campaign that automatically gives active decoder subscribers in South Africa access to higher-tier packages at no extra cost.

DStv initiated the campaign just in time for the festive season, runningbetween 10 November and 31 December 2025, From 1 January 2026, all packages revert to normal. 

Streams 

During the campign, premium customers will receive an additional two free streams (up to a total of four) from 1 November to 31 December 2025 and additional rewards. 

According to DStv, during the Thol-iUpsize campaign, active decoder customers on Compact Plus and Compact will enjoy Premium, while Family and Access get Compact, at no extra cost. 

“No action is required from customers, and normal billing resumes in January 2026. With the summer holidays fast approaching, families can enjoy a wide range of local and international entertainment. 

“Highlights include Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and Thuso Mbedu, on M-Net; Mpondoland on Mzansi Magic; and cooking reality show Kokkedoor: Son en See, with its festive theme, on kykNET, as well as live sport, including the Carling Cup Final and the Proteas tour to India,” DStv said.

Value

Locally, the Thol-iUpsize campaign forms part of DStv’s broader plan to improve customer value. It follows recent initiatives such as decoder price cuts, a refreshed DStv Rewards programme, and a successful Open Time weekend, which gave all decoder customers access to Premium content and live sport. 

“What we’re doing with our Upsize campaign is part of a bigger value reset at DStv,” said Byron du Plessis, CEO: Pay TV South Africa at MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company. “We’re focused on making DStv more accessible and rewarding, with affordability and customer experience at the heart of our strategy.”

 “Together, these initiatives, from Thol-iUpsize and decoder price cuts to the AFCON 2025 broadcast, show the progress we’re already making. DStv and CANAL+’s combined scale makes it possible to give customers across Africa more choice and better value than ever before,” said du Plessis. 

Sport

December is packed with sporting events and if you are not going on holiday, you can catch the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2025 (starting 21 December 2025) and the fourth Betway SA20, which begins 26 December 2025. 

DStv is relaunching its online store later this month, offering free delivery and a simpler ordering process. Decoder prices have already been cut (effective 1 November) to as low as R299 online (excluding installation) or R699 with installation, depending on where customers buy.
