Huawei launch the GT Runner 2.

Huawei made yet another powerful return to the elite running arena unveiling the next‑generation Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 at its Now Is Your Run global launch event in Madrid, Spain.

The debut on 26 February 2026, marks Huawei’s first professional running watch release in five years and signals a renewed commitment to performance‑driven innovation.

The much-anticipated event also showcased a suite of flagship devices, including the Huawei Mate 80 Pro, MatePad Mini, FreeBuds Pro 5.

Champion joins the line‑up

Two‑time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge was officially introduced as the global ambassador for the Huawei Watch GT Runner Series.

Kipchoge shared insights about why he uses the Huawei Watch GT Runner series watches.

“Running means much more than running fast,” Kipchoge shared. “Together with Huawei, we can reach millions of runners around the world and positively impact their lives.”

Engineered for serious athletes and everyday runners alike, the Watch GT Runner 2 features a new 3D floating antenna architecture for exceptional positioning accuracy.

Its intelligent positioning algorithm continues tracking distance and trajectory even when GPS signals drop—ensuring reliable data in challenging environments.

A standout addition is the intelligent marathon mode, which acts as a personal race‑day strategist on the wrist.

Designed with input from professional athletes, it offers tailored insights to help runners optimise performance and train smarter.

Kipchoge highlighted his hands‑on role in shaping the device.

“This is the world of technology. This a world whereby you can access a coach in your watch.

“I’m passionate about improving the smartwatch experience for runners everywhere, not just elite athletes,” Kipchoge said.

Earlier this week, Huawei raised the bar for consumer health technology with the debut of its new wearable diabetes risk assessment feature, underscoring the company’s commitment to proactive, data‑driven wellness management.

The innovation was unveiled at the World Health Expo Dubai 2026, marking a significant step forward in non‑invasive health monitoring.

The feature uses advanced Photoplethysmography (PPG) technology and next generation smartwatch sensors to analyse physiological patterns and flag early indicators that may correlate with diabetes risk.

As more people turn to wearables to take charge of their wellbeing, Huawei emphasises that the tool is designed to raise awareness—not diagnose medical conditions—and encourages users to seek timely professional evaluation when needed.

Rounding out the line‑up, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 became the industry’s first wireless earbuds to feature dual‑engine AI noise cancellation.

“The partnership with Kipchoge underscores this ambition—encouraging people everywhere to move, run, and live healthier lives.”

Huawei is leading the smart wearable segment and others brands have to run a marathon to catch up.

Looking ahead, Huawei said it remains committed to “advancing fitness and health innovation, empowering more individuals to lead active, connected, and balanced lifestyles.
