Apple has officially launched the MacBook Neo, its most affordable MacBook ever and it will now be available in South Africa next week.
The MacBook Neo is Apple’s strategic move into the affordable laptop market, aimed at students and budget-conscious buyers.
Affordable
It arrives as the company’s boldest play yet in the budget laptop market—an aluminium-clad machine priced to tempt students and first-time buyers with its sleek design, vibrant 13-inch display, and dependable battery life.
The MacBook Neo is described in context as Apple’s most affordable.
Context notes that the pricing is roughly half that of the current cheapest model in Apple’s laptop line, positioning the Neo as an entry-level Mac intended to reach new users.

Features
Key technical details presented in the unveiling include a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness and support for one billion colours, a claimed battery life of up to 16 hours for everyday tasks, and a 1080p FaceTime HD camera
The affordability comes with trade-offs: fixed 8GB RAM, storage capped at 512GB, and an iPhone-derived A18 Pro chip that struggles against the power of Apple’s M-series.
The A18 Pro chip delivers smooth performance for lightweight use, while the fresh colour palette adds youthful appeal.
iStore
Meanwhile, the iStore, South Africa’s Apple Premium Partner, has announced the launch of MacBook Neo.
Starting from R11 999, the iStore said for professionals, students and small businesses still using older PCs, “there’s never been a better time to switch to Mac.”
“With iStore’s PC Buy Back, customers can receive a guaranteed R3 000 trade-in value when switching from a qualifying PC laptop to MacBook Neo, making the move to Mac more affordable than ever.
“Small businesses also benefit from additional value at iStore, including a free three-year warranty and expert technical support with any Mac purchase, helping ensure their teams stay productive,” iStore said.
Availability
The new MacBook Neo comes in four colours: Blush, Citrus, Indigo, and Silver.
Pre-orders began 4 March 2026, with global availability—including South Africa—set for 11 March 2026.
