Along with the launch of its new X300 series in Shanghai, China, last week, Vivo also unveiled its latest operating system, Vivo OriginOS 6, and Android-based shell running on all of the company’s latest devices, which it says is its most “advanced operating system” yet.

As a milestone commemorating the brand’s 30th anniversary, Vivo said the X300 series establishes a new paradigm as the “Dual Kings of 200 MP ZEISS Imaging.”

X300

The new and improved flagship series is capped off by the X300 Pro, which still features a formidable camera array, even if there isn’t an improvement over the previous iteration.

Both models of the X300 series feature a strong focus on professional-grade photography through a collaboration with ZEISS. They are powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor and Vivo’s in-house V3+ imaging chip.

The main differences lie in their cameras, battery capacity, and size, with the Pro model offering enhanced features.

While Vivo’s X300 series is available for order in China, South Africa will have to wait until February 2026 if the device will be coming to the country at all.

The X200 Pro from the previous generation, with the hefty R40 000, showed up locally this year, but had competition from Huawei, Samsung and Honour with the Magic 400.

OriginOS 6

The new OriginOS 6 operating system launching in February 2026 will replace FunTouch OS on international Vivo and iQOO devices, bringing a significant overhaul in design, performance, and artificial intelligence (AI) features.

Chinese OEMs, like their other smartphone brands’ counterparts, are harnessing the power of AI.

“Guided by our ‘Origin Design’ philosophy and built on three core pillars of smoothness, design and AI, the brand new OriginOS 6 reimagines the way people connect with the digital world,” explains Shi Yujain, chief tech officer at Vivo.

Improvements

According to Vivo, the “Origin Smooth Engine” integrates computing, storage, and display modules for a more fluid user experience.

Improvements include faster app starts and more stable frame rates. The software has an SGS certification for sustained smoothness over five years.

Vivo said the X300 Pro with OriginOS 6 has earned SGS certification for sustained smoothness, simulating five years of heavy use.

“Together, these innovations define vivo’s mastery of smoothness—an experience users can see, feel, and rely on every day.”

Vivo said the Origin Design system unifies visual elements, including colour, shape, icon, image, font, layout, material and depth, with simplicity and precision.
