FNB and RMB Private Bank customers using Huawei or Android-enabled devices now have access to a new contactless payment option.
Huawei smartphone owners have been calling for a tap-to-pay option, and the Swoo pay app may just be what they were looking for.
What it does
Swoo Pay allows Huawei customers with NFC-enabled devices running HMS AndroidOS without Google Services to link their FNB virtual or physical cards to the payment app and simply ‘tap to pay’ at any contactless-enabled ATM or point of sale.
“As a digital innovation leader, we are always looking for secure and convenient digital payment options for all our customers across the continuum. Over the years, we have consistently focused on giving all our customers choice and increased access to a wider variety of digital payment solutions,” said Senzo Nsibande, CEO of Card at FNB.
“The enablement of Swoo Pay makes contactless payments more accessible to those customers using Huawei devices.”
The Swoo app basically allows users to store all their cards and card information in the app instead of carrying a wallet full of loyalty and other cards.

Contactless payments
FNB has highlighted that it has seen exponential growth in contactless payments.
According to FNB, as of August 2025, total retail spend through FNB-enabled digital wallets surpassed R200 billion, reflecting the growing shift towards contactless transactions via smart devices.
It said digital wallet transaction volumes have grown by over 42% year-on-year in 2025 compared to 2024.
“We’re excited to partner with FNB to extend contactless payments through Swoo Pay to users of a wider range of mobile devices, including Huawei smartphones. This collaboration eliminates technological barriers while offering customers a dual benefit: maintaining all FNB card privileges plus access to the unique Swoo Tokenback loyalty programme, which returns up to 90% of purchase value as digital tokens,” said Kirill Gorynya, CEO of Swoo.
“Our mission is making financial technology accessible to everyone, regardless of device choice, and together with FNB, we’re creating a more inclusive digital payment future for South Africans.”
How to get Swoo
FNB customers can access Swoo Pay by downloading the Swoo digital wallet App from the Huawei AppGallery.
Once downloaded, simply add your virtual card and follow the prompts to activate the service via the banking app or call centre.
Once activated, you can start using ‘tap to pay’ at any contactless point of sale.
Swoo Pay is also available on Google’s Play Store and Apple App Store. But it’s unclear if FNB supports has any partnership with app on these app stores.
