If you thought instant photography was fading, Fujifilm South Africa has unveiled the Instax Mini 13, the latest addition to its best‑selling instant camera range.

The launch comes alongside an AI‑powered update to the Instax UP! app, signalling a renewed focus on blending the tactile appeal of analogue photography with smarter digital archiving.

Successor to Mini 12

The Mini 13 arrives as the successor to the popular Mini 12, released in 2023, and continues the series’ reputation for simple, accessible instant photography. Load the film, twist the lens ring, and shoot — no complex settings required.

Visually, the Mini 13 introduces a softer, sculpted body with a metallic silver logo. Functionally, it adds dual timers (two and ten seconds) to make selfies and group shots easier, and a wedge‑shaped strap accessory that props the camera up for hands‑free use.

Features

The camera retains familiar Instax features: Close‑Up Mode, a selfie mirror, auto exposure, and parallax correction to align the viewfinder with the lens for sharper close‑ups.

Automatic flash control helps balance light in bright or dim conditions, while the twist lens design keeps operation intuitive. These features make the Mini 13 a practical entry point into instant photography, while still appealing to enthusiasts who value immediacy and simplicity.

Digital Archiving

On the digital side, Fujifilm has upgraded the Instax UP! app with AI scanning. The update improves precision by distinguishing photos from their backgrounds more effectively, resulting in cleaner digital archives of physical prints.

To mark the launch, Fujifilm is introducing Instax Mini Sprinkles instant film. This new variety features colourful borders reminiscent of rainbow sprinkles, adding a playful element to the standard Mini format.

Availability and Pricing

Available in Candy Pink, Clay White, Frost Blue, Dreamy Purple and Lagoon Green, the Mini 13 retails at R1 749 incl. VAT, with a kit option (camera, case, and film pack) priced at R2 199 incl. VAT.
