Spotify has announced a new label for AI‑generated artist identities, called AI Personas, in a move aimed at strengthening trust and transparency between artists and listeners.

The badge will begin appearing from mid‑September on mobile profiles, search results, and track rows across playlists, signalling when an artist identity is AI‑generated rather than human.

Why it matters

The streaming giant says the initiative responds to listener concerns about authenticity.

“True artist‑fan connection can only be built on a foundation of trust and authenticity,” Spotify noted, adding that the badge will help users distinguish between real artists and AI‑driven personas.

By default, music from AI Personas will be excluded from personalized recommendations, unless listeners choose to follow them.

How it works

From August 11, artists can disclose through Spotify for Artists that their profile represents an AI Persona. However, Spotify will not rely solely on self‑disclosure.

Human reviewers and AI investigative tools will also identify profiles that present photorealistic AI identities. Artists labeled by Spotify will be notified, with the option to self‑disclose or appeal.

The badge will appear prominently in the banner and About section of artist profiles, as well as in search and playlist track rows. Tapping the badge will reveal whether the artist disclosed their AI identity or if Spotify applied the label after review.

Building trust

The AI Persona badge is part of Spotify’s broader push to reinforce authenticity. Recent initiatives include Verified by Spotify, which confirms human artist identities; SongDNA, offering deeper track context; and AI Credits, allowing artists to disclose how AI was used in their creative process.

Spotify said the badge is about clarifying identity, not policing creativity.

“This badge is about the artist’s public identity, not about how the music was made,” the company explained.

With AI reshaping the music industry, Spotify’s move signals its intent to remain the most transparent and trustworthy platform for listeners worldwide.
