As Bafana Bafana kick off their World Cup campaign against Mexico on Thursday, DStv and MTN have announced a partnership to broaden access to the global tournament, making it more affordable and widely available to local fans.

From 11 June to 19 July 2026, MTN prepaid customers who recharge with R50 or more in a day will receive 1GB of data to stream matches on DStv Stream, redeemable via the MyMTN SA App.

Pledge

MTN has also pledged to award fans an extra gigabyte of data for every goal scored by Bafana Bafana, creating what the company calls an “it’s a goal and it’s a Gig” experience.

For the first time, all 104 matches will be broadcast live on DStv Access, the platform’s entry‑level package priced at R99 per month.

Historic

MultiChoice CEO Willington Ngwepe described the move as historic

“This is the most significant FIFA World Cup™ to date for African football. Ten teams from our continent, including Bafana Bafana, are competing on the biggest stage in the world. We’ve brought all 104 matches to DStv Access for the first time in 2026, because no South African fan should miss a single minute.”

Partnership

MTN South Africa’s Chief Consumer Officer for Prepaid, Muyiwa Ladipo, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader mission.

“At MTN SA, we believe everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, especially during a momentous occasion like this iconic tournament.

“Through our partnership with DStv, we are helping more South Africans stream every moment of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, including Bafana Bafana on the world stage,” Ladipo said.

Digital divide

The collaboration comes against the backdrop of South Africa’s persistent digital divide. While the country has among the highest internet penetration rates in Africa, many households still struggle with affordability and access.

By linking mobile recharges to streaming bundles, the offer attempts to lower barriers for fans who might otherwise miss out.

Pop-up channel

DStv Stream subscribers will also benefit from a dedicated SuperSport FIFA World Cup 2026 pop‑up channel, alongside more than 80 channels and on‑demand content.

The platform allows viewers to adjust video quality to manage data consumption, making streaming viable even on limited bundles.

With Bafana Bafana back on the world stage, the partnership underscores efforts to expand access to one of the most watched sporting events in history.
