Xiaomi 17T Picture: Xiaomi
Xiaomi has confirmed the arrival of its new flagship, the Xiaomi 17T, in South Africa on 9 June 2026.
The device is positioned as a premium smartphone with a strong focus on imaging, performance, and AI‑driven features.
However, the company faces competition from other brands.
Camera
At the centre of the 17T is Xiaomi’s continued partnership with Leica. The triple‑camera system includes a 50MP Leica main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto lens offering up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom, and a 50MP ultra‑wide camera with a 120‑degree field of view.
A 32MP front camera supports high‑quality selfies and video calls.
The phone also records cinematic 4K video at 60fps, HDR10+, and professional log video, aimed at creators who want studio‑level results directly from a handset.
Display
The display is a 6.59‑inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and peak brightness of 3,500 nits.
This places the device firmly in the premium tier, offering strong performance in both indoor and outdoor conditions.

Internals
Under the hood, the 17T runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500‑Ultra processor and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3. AI features are integrated through HyperAI, including writing assistance, speech recognition, translation tools, and Google Gemini support.
Battery life is another focus, with a 6,500mAh silicon‑carbon cell and 67W fast charging. The phone also carries IP68 dust and water resistance, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and TÜV Rheinland eye‑care certification.
Pricing
Available in Black and Opal White, the Xiaomi 17T is aimed at consumers who want a balance of design, durability, and advanced features.
While pricing has not yet been announced, the device will be sold through Vodacom retail stores nationwide.
The launch signals Xiaomi’s intent to strengthen its presence in South Africa’s premium smartphone market, where competition from Samsung, Apple, and HONOR remains intense.
