Huawei has sparked another launch with a slew of innovative products including a new fitness watch that will propel the company to maintain its leadership of wearable technology, particularly in South Africa where there is intense competition.

The stage was set alight in Bangkok, Thailand, for Huawei’s “Now Is Your Spark” Innovative Product Launch at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) on Thursday, 7 May.

Launch

The launch was a pivotal event marking the company’s aggressive expansion into the global premium market.

Huawei’s launch was not just about incremental updates; it represented a major leap in display technology, aesthetic luxury, and integrated health features across a diverse ecosystem of hardware.

Watches

The headline act for many was the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro which the Chinse company effectively blurred the lines between a fitness tracker and a flagship smartwatch.

The Huawei Watch Fit 5 is centered around a stunning 1.92-inch AMOLED display that shatters previous records with a 3000-nit peak brightness. This ensures that even under the intense midday sun, the interface remains crisp and legible.

The build quality has been elevated to a luxury standard, utilizing a titanium alloy bezel and sapphire crystal glass. Beyond the hardware, the software introduces “micro-movement stretching” and medical-grade ECG certification, positioning it as a serious health companion with a 10-day battery life.

Rounding out the warble tech event was the Watch Kids X1 series, marking a return to premium wearables for younger users.

South Africa’s wearable technology market in 2026 is highly competitive, with Huawei, Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and Xiaomi all vying for dominance.

Huawei’s Watch Fit 5 Pro is positioned as a stylish, performance driven alternative, competing on battery life, affordability, and advanced sports tracking against Apple’s ecosystem lock in, Garmin’s rugged athlete focus, and Samsung’s Android integration.

The Bangkok launch was not only about watches.

Nova series

Huawei’s Nova series has become a major player in the midrange smartphones market challenging the likes of Samsung, Honor, its former sister company, Vivo and Oppo among others,

The smartphone segment saw the global debut of the Huawei Nova 15 Max. Powered by the Kirin 8000 chipset; it brings a massive 6.84-inch OLED display and high-end photography capabilities to the mid-to-high range market.

The Nova 15 Max joins the rest of the Nova 15 lineup, which already includes the standard, Pro, and Ultra models that debuted in China late last year.

Huawei is also highlighted a 50MP RYYB main camera, which should help with low-light performance, along with stereo speakers.

The design is very different compared to the rest of the Nova 15 series.

By launching this wide array of products simultaneously, Huawei is signaling a unified vision: a future where high fashion, medical-grade health tracking, and professional productivity tools live seamlessly on a single user’s wrist and in their hands.

Pricing and availability

The Huawei Watch Fit series is set to launch in mid-May in South Africa, retailing for R3,499, while the Huawei Watch Kids X1 is expected to debut in mid-August 2026, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
