Tropika is expanding its flavour line‑up with the introduction of a limited‑edition Ginger Beer variant, designed to resonate with South African consumers during the winter season.
Known for its warming, nostalgic qualities, ginger beer marks a departure from Tropika’s traditional fruity profile, offering a bold yet familiar taste that taps into local cultural preferences.
Innovation
While some may not be inclined toward the new flavour, the choice of ginger beer reflects Tropika’s broader innovation strategy of refreshing its portfolio with distinctive flavours that remain relevant in a competitive market.
The drink is positioned as both unexpected and authentically South African, aligning with consumer demand for products that blend tradition with novelty.
Ginger beer is defined by its intense, fiery personality and a sharp ginger “bite” that often leaves a warm, tingling sensation in the back of the throat.

Collaboration
To highlight the launch, Tropika has partnered with renowned Ndebele artist Dr Esther Mahlangu. Her signature geometric designs feature prominently on the packaging, turning each bottle into a celebration of South African heritage and creativity.
Born in 1935, Dr Mahlangu has spent decades shaping contemporary art while preserving traditional skills, earning global recognition as a cultural ambassador.
SA identity
The collaboration underscores a shared vision between Tropika and Dr Mahlangu: evolving with pride while remaining rooted in South African identity.
“Partnering with the legendary Dr Esther Mahlangu for our Ginger Beer launch is a true honour and a perfect embodiment of what Tropika stands for,” said Miantha Roux, Head of Beverages at Clover.
“This flavour takes us in a new direction. It’s bold, but still deeply familiar. Dr Mahlangu’s artistry brings a sense of pride, heritage and storytelling that goes far beyond the pack.”
Ginger Beer
Tropika Ginger Beer is now available nationwide as a limited‑edition release. With its exclusive Mahlangu design and strong cultural resonance, the brand expects high demand, positioning the launch as both a flavour innovation and a celebration of South African artistry.
