Mattel Brick Shop has expanded its growing range of collectable building sets by launching a detailed replica of the iconic 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R, marking the brand’s first collaboration with Nissan.

Unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the 833-piece set recreates the legendary Japanese performance car, known among enthusiasts as the “Hakosuka”, in a 1:16 scale model complete with customisation options, functional features and an exclusive Hot Wheels die-cast vehicle.

Automotive lineup

The launch represents a significant addition to Mattel Brick Shop’s automotive line-up, bringing one of Japan’s most celebrated classic performance cars to builders and collectors alike.

“The 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R helped establish the GT-R name as a Japanese performance icon,” Mattel said in announcing the set.

The company noted that the vehicle’s success in Japanese touring car racing, distinctive boxy styling and rarity have made it one of the most recognisable and sought-after Japanese cars among collectors.

Authenticity

Designed with authenticity in mind, the model is finished in a classic white racing livery with printed red stripes and includes a range of customisable elements.

Builders can personalise the car using a decal sheet, interchangeable wheel covers, including a metal set, and additional parts such as a front splitter, headlight covers and an intercooler.

Features

The set also features working steering, an opening bonnet that reveals a detailed engine bay, a metal signature plate and an exclusive matching 1:64-scale Hot Wheels die-cast model.

Promoting the launch, Mattel described the Skyline as an “icon of car culture”, adding that the model brings the vehicle’s legacy “from the racetrack to the big screen, and now to your collection”.

Availability

The unveiling comes as Mattel Brick Shop continues to expand its presence in the premium building-set market, using partnerships with established automotive brands to appeal to enthusiasts and collectors.

The Mattel Brick Shop X Hot Wheels 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R building set is expected to become available from January 2027 and is recommended for builders aged 10 and older.
